1. CHAPER CAMPAIGNS DEADLINE DECEMBER 1

If your chapter is participating in Chapter Campaigns, the deadline to submit members (for the Membership Campaign) or to submit your DECA Month Chapter Campaigns to DECA Inc. is tomorrow, December 1.

2. COMPETITION TIPS FROM WASHINGTON DECA

In each weekly update starting December 7, Washington DECA will provide you with a link you may click on to provide you and your students with some helpful hints to get them competition ready.

- Look for advice on how to prepare students for cluster exams, effective visuals, utilizing scratch paper, judge tips for participants, and many more.

- Stay tuned: Next week is “Competition Tips Using Current Resources.”

- Questions? Contact Linda Andersen or Kim Frahm.

3. WASHINGTON DECA OVERVIEW AND GUIDELINES FOR STATE COMPETITITVE EVENTS

Very Important: CLICK HERE to download the WA DECA Overview and Guidelines for State Competitive Events. These guidelines are specific to Washington’s State Career Development Conference.

4. AREA CONFERENCES / NEW ADVISORS

Area leaders and area conference planners, please be sure to communicate with new advisors about the area conference details, their responsibilities, how to register, cost, etc.

- Attached are the updated Advisor Roster, Advisor and Chapter Changes document, and Chapters within Areas document for everyone’s use.

- Advisors who have questions about Area competition should also feel free to contact your Area Leader.

5. TEACHDECA.ORG – WHAT’S NEW?

This year’s online DECA Direct issues have now been uploaded to teachdeca.org, dating back to September 5.

- Relevant and important articles are highlighted.

- The worksheets for each DECA Direct magazine are posted for your use in the classroom.

6. PRINCIPLES EVENTS AND PERSONAL FINANCIAL LITERACY

The Principles Events and Personal Financial Literacy Events are for students who do not qualify for SCDC, but their advisor would like to see them attend and compete at SCDC. Each chapter has a limited number of allocations/spots for these at SCDC.

- CLICK HERE to see the Principles/PFL Allocations document.

- The number of allocations a chapter has is the total number a chapter can send to SCDC in any combination of those events.

- Chapters can be “gifted” another chapter’s allocations if they aren’t being used. WA DECA NEEDS TO BE NOTIFIED, AS WE DO TRACK THIS. If gifting Principles/PFL allocations, contact [email protected].

- If a student qualifies at their Area conference to compete at SCDC, they may not opt to compete in a Principles or PFL event instead.

7. SBE PRESENTATION TOPIC

Did you know there is a School Based Enterprise presentation topic? Go to the SBE guidelines web page to find out what it is. www.deca.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/SBE-Competition-Guidelines.pdf

8. CTSO PROMOTION PLAN

Attached is a CTSO Promotion Plan application for any of your students who would like to have a hand in promoting Career and Technical Student Organizations by developing a brief (one paragraph) plan and a logo.

- The winning design/plan will be featured in all promotional materials beginning January 2, 2018.

- Application due December 13, 2017 to [email protected].

9. MEMBERSHIP STATUS

We currently have 10,811 submitted members in Washington State! Last year at this time, we had 10,598 submitted members. Keep up the good work!

Will your chapter be recognized at SCDC for the Give Us Five Membership Drive? Largest chapter or % growth in your Area? Largest chapter or % growth in the state?

It’s a great time to connect with previous alumni and professional members to encourage them to renew their memberships.

- We’ll let you know about upcoming alumni events so you can invite your alumni members to attend.

- Are you still in touch with last year’s graduating seniors? DECA Alumni Membership looks good on a resumé!

10. FLC BALANCES DUE

Unpaid FLC payments are now more than 30 days past due. Per a new policy this year, chapters with an unpaid balance after 60 days will incur a $25 late fee each month until the balance is paid.

Attached is the unpaid balance report.

11. VOTING DELEGATES

CLICK HERE to see this year’s chapter Voting Delegate allocations based on the November 15 membership numbers.
