ICDC AND SCDC UPDATES

1. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT ICDC

Take advantage of professional development being offered at ICDC by attending the DECA Advisor Professional Learning Series April 22-23. “This Is How We Do DECA” is professional learning for DECA advisors by DECA advisors.

Our own Kitti Wheeler, Clover Park High School, is presenting Creating a Culture of Limitless Opportunities on Monday, April 23 at 9:00 a.m.!

2. ICDC CONCERT ARTIST ANNOUNCED

Andy Grammer is the headliner at this year’s ICDC concert on Monday, April 23, at 8:30 p.m. at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium! The conference shuttle will be extended for an hour after the concert ends. Tickets are available for purchase for $45 at http://www.decaregistration.com/tours. The deadline to pre-order tickets is noon EST on April 13. Tickets are available exclusively to ICDC attendees. I’m jealous…

3. SCHOLARSHIP THANK-YOU LETTER DEADLINE DISCREPANCY

The deadline to postmark or hand-deliver scholarship thank-you letters was listed as April 12 on the WA DECA Calendar and March 22 on the Scholarship Awards document. We will honor thank-you letters postmarked through April 12.

- Checks will be mailed to chapters after their thank-you letters are received and all invoices are paid.

4. CONGRATULATIONS TO DECA INC. SCHOLARHIP RECIPIENTS FROM WASHINGTON!

5. ALTERNATE ICDC MATERIALS PICK UP

For those of you who are unable to pick up your materials between 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. on 4/20, please connect with the following WA DECA staff members to make arrangements.

Linda Andersen (520.591.7435) – Chapters staying at the JW Marriott

Lori Hairston (425.213.8031) – Chapters staying at both the Embassy Suites and Marriott Atlanta

Eliza Webb (206.818.7376) – Chapters staying at the InterContinental

6. ICDC CURFEW

Washington DECA’s curfew at ICDC will be 12:30 a.m., which is the curfew DECA Inc. set. We had originally anticipated setting an 11:30 p.m. or midnight curfew, but based on our proximity to the stadium and concert venue, chapters may not make it back until at least midnight—particularly after Opening Session, the concert, and Awards Session.

- If your chapter runs into an unavoidable situation where you can’t make it back by 12:30 a.m., you will need to call the Management Team member on duty at your hotel to let them know, or risk receiving a Code of Conduct violation. We are enforcing curfew.

- The hotels do have a "quiet time" requirement, so there will be reminders about noise complaints after 10:00 pm.

7. MANAGEMENT TEAM AT ICDC

Speaking of Management Team, we have a Management Team member at each hotel to assist with any conduct issues, noise complaints, curfew, dress code violations in public areas, etc. Please give them your utmost respect and cooperation, and expect the same of your students. Safety first! The Management Team Members are:

- Atlanta Marriott Buckhead: Lori Hairston (425.213.8031)

- Embassy Suites Buckhead: John Devlin, Advisor at Lindbergh HS (253.653.0233)

- InterContinental Buckhead: Andrew Shanafelt, Advisor at Issaquah HS (206.949.9853)

- JW Marriott Buckhead: Greg McCormick, Advisor at Mark Morris HS (360.431.8167)

You will receive a Staff/Management Team Contact Information card in your registration materials.

8. TOPGOLF

If you’re looking or something fun to do as a chapter, Tanya Torres Steen, Graham Kapowsin High School, recommends Topgolf Atlanta. She has arranged a 3-hour catered event there for her chapter. Scott Wheeler is the event coordinator. 470.419.6986

9. COMING SOON: ATLANTA TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION; INFORMATION IN LIEU OF STATE MEETING

Transportation Information: We are working on some information to help you make informed decisions about getting around and commuting between Buckhead and downtown Atlanta, the time you will need to build in to schedules, and parking costs. We hear traffic is very similar to that of Seattle!

- Options include MARTA, ICDC shuttles, and private transportation (parking fees will apply at the hotels and the World Congress Center).

Information in Lieu of State Meeting: An important and informative document will be provided to you at least one week prior to ICDC that will include information that would have been covered at the State Meeting. Being in 4 different hotels make a State Meeting implausible. Be watching for this.

10. SCDC SURVEYS

We would like to thank the 60+ chapters that turned in their surveys either at SCDC or after – some of you even drove them into the office! A 38% response rate indicates that we have plenty of room for improvement, but it’s a huge step up from prior years – thank you!

11. SCDC BALANCES DUE
