2. COMPETITION TIPS

Our 6-week series on competition tips started today with our "Get Competition Ready in Washington DECA" webinar featuring Linda Andersen.

The webinar will be posted to TeachDECA.org early next week. The tips will also be housed on TeachDECA.org under Weekly Updates. Tip #1 includes a very simple checklist to "Get Ready for Area Competition." Here is the link for Tip #1!

3. DECEMBER 15 MEMBERSHIP PAYMENT DEADLINE

December 15 is the deadline to pay the membership invoices for all members registered on or before November 15.

To view yours, log in to DECA membership at https://membership.decaregistration.com/deca#. Click on the Invoice History tab in the center row of tabs (not invoice payment history). You will see the total for each invoice, if there is a balance due, when the invoice was created, and when it was paid.

Below is the Membership payment policy in the Washington DECA Policy Handbook:

7.02 Washington DECA and DECA Inc. dues will be submitted in the following manner:

a) Students must be members of Washington and DECA Inc. to participate in any Washington DECA activity (including area conferences).

b) Each program will submit their membership registration to DECA Inc. online (www. membership.deca.org) by November 15 to be included in the area allocations. Payment must reach DECA Inc. no later than December 15.

c) Washington DECA will compute the area allocation for the State Career Development Conference based upon the number of registered and submitted members as of the November 15 deadline.

d) Additional members will be accepted through June 30, but members registered and submitted after November 15 will not be included in the area allocations.

e) If the November 15 membership invoice is past due by 30 days (January 15), the invoice and a letter outlining potential consequences will be sent to the advisor, CTE director, and bookkeeper(s). If the November 15 membership invoice is past due by 60 days (February 15), the chapter will be allowed to attend the State Career Development Conference, and the students may compete and be awarded on stage if applicable. However, any ICDC qualifiers from that chapter will not be allowed to compete at or attend the International Career Development Conference.

f) No exceptions will be made if an accounting office of a school or district fails to forward payment on time.

4. CURRENT MEMBERSHIP STATUS

We currently have 10,985 submitted members and 12 unsubmitted members. Attached is the membership summary by Area as of today.

If we can increase membership by 1,015 (12,000 members) by June, our ICDC allocations will increase for next year! Keep up the great work! Next week, I’ll update you on the progress chapters are making with the Give Us Five Membership Drive.

5. MEMBERSHIP NAME CORRECTION POLICY

Once a member has been submitted in the membership system, they may not be removed, and the chapter is obligated to pay the membership fee. This is clearly stated in registration.

The “Request Name Change” feature in the membership system is not meant for swapping out member names. It is meant for correcting misspellings. Please do not request name exchanges.

6. FLC BALANCES DUE / SCDC REGISTRATION IN JEOPARDY

Attached is a list of the chapters with balances due for FLC. Please connect with your bookkeepers to ensure these are paid right away to avoid penalty. We do not want to block any chapter from registering for SCDC, but we are required to enforce the outstanding payment policy.

Below is the outstanding payment policy in the Washington DECA Policy Handbook

7.05 Any DECA chapter that has an outstanding balance with Washington DECA one week prior to the registration deadline for the next state sponsored event will not be allowed to register for that event. (84) (98) (14)

7.06 An area will have its competitive event allocation reduced by one (1) if any of their chapters and/or state officers has an outstanding balance after June 1. (90) (14)

7. WHAT’S NEW ON TEACHDECA.ORG

Due to the differences in times, dates, locations, and agendas for the area conferences, we will be posting some basic "Go To" information for your convenience on TeachDECA.org here. Just look for your specific area conference and "click". Available by December 8, 2017.

One of the tasks that we have the least amount of time for, but can get us into the most trouble is handling our chapter's finances. Soon, located on TeachDECA.org, you will find a simple spreadsheet with a PDF instruction guide, as well as a collections log, expenditures log, and individual fundraiser tracking form. Adapt to your own needs, but these will get you started. Found under Unit One, 1.1 Educators. Coming soon.
