11. WHAT’S NEW FROM THE CHAPTER SUPPORT TEAM

1. EVENT SHIFT SCHEDULE AT SCDC

We are changing up the SCDC advisor work shifts this year. Instead of having the Meydenbauer events split in AM and PM shifts and the Hyatt events as all-day shifts, we are going to move everyone to an all-day shift, which we hope will allow more flexibility in taking breaks and being available for your students. It sounds counterintuitive, but in doing this, we will be able to have one more person at each series and team event all day, which should facilitate more availability. We also have two new events this year to staff, and while we have recruited volunteers to help, we need to change the process to make sure we can run all the events we are offering.

2. PHOTO ID AT SCDC

Students will need photo ID for competition at SCDC. We suggest that students take a picture of their driver’s license, passport, or ASB card, “just in case.”

3. MISSING FORM Bs

I still need a completed Form B from the following advisors:

Shannon Reese (Archbishop Murphy), Jana Thomas (Auburn Mountainview), Angel Elam (Capital), Cynthia Lang, (Enumclaw), Dustin Brittain (Ferndale), Debie Noble (Heritage), Heidi Wilson (Kamiakin), Mark Jackson (Kentridge), Alex Snyder (Nathan Hale), Taryn Veloni (Olympia Regional Learning Academy), Jeff Bright (Sammamish), James Kelley (Stanton Academy), and Isael Marines (Stanton Academy).

Click Here to initiate and route Form B to your principal and CTE director via DocuSign.

4. HOTEL POs AND HOTEL CREDIT CARD AUTHORIZATIONS

Attached is my tracking spreadsheet, organized by hotel. This is as of Friday 2/09. If others have come in since Friday, I haven’t recorded them yet. The spreadsheet shows:

- The total hotel charges for each chapter.

- Any POs and/or credit card authorization forms I’ve received and the amount to cover.

- Yellow highlights indicate I haven’t received a PO or credit card authorization.

- Red indicates the amount listed in the PO or credit card authorization isn’t sufficient to cover all costs.

- PLEASE get these to me as soon as possible.

5. ADVISOR (PRIMARY) CELL PHONE NUMBERS

Attached is the list of cell phone numbers for the primary advisor at each school that we will give to all advisors at SCDC to help facilitate communication and for emergency situations. Please check yours and let me know if I need to make any changes or corrections as soon as possible. Thank you.

6. K’ APP

Washington DECA has partnered with K’ app–a scheduling app that integrates with events, restaurants, and happenings in any locale you happen to be in. This is a perfect tool to help your students schedule their time at SCDC. The best part is, they can share their schedule with you or a chaperone, and it acts as an accountability partner! More info to come, but start the conversation with your students, K’?

7. SCDC HOTEL ASSIGNMENTS

Housing for SCDC is signed, sealed, and delivered. I want to thank Ballard and Cedarcrest High Schools PROFUSELY for your flexibility to move hotels when I needed you (and a shout out to Ferndale and Heritage who were willing, if needed)! Attached is the list of where each chapter is staying this year.

8. 100% DECA

Remember to send Linda your 100% membership documentation before February 16 to get those colorful 100% DECA ribbons at SCDC and ICDC.

9. GIVE US FIVE MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

I will pull the membership numbers Friday, February 16 at 5:00 p.m. to determine which schools achieved the Give Us Five Membership Drive goal of five more student, alumni, and professional members over last year. Will we be “giving you five” at SCDC?

10. OPEN POSITION AT KELSO HIGH SCHOOL

We are both happy (for Mr. Davis) and sad (for us) to report that there is a full-time CTE Marketing Teacher position open at Kelso High School, beginning the 2018-2019 school year.

Help Your Competitors Stand Apart from the Crowd

Everybody knows the 80/20 Rule and ROI, but can your students effectively use "authenticity" and the "Klout Score"? If the answer is no, then encourage them to google trending jargon in their chosen career cluster and read about how to use it! The trick to standing apart from the crowd is knowing what is trending NOW and using it effectively. This article in DECADirect is a great example of a trending company knowing what is important and keeping it at the heart of their marketing strategy.
