A. MEMBERSHIP

1. MEMBERSHIP NUMBERS

We are at 11,569 members as of today.

  • There are a few chapters that are close to reaching the Give Us Five Membership Drive goal of increasing student, professional, and alumni members by 5 over last year’s numbers.
  • Take a look at the attached Membership Comparison Report to see how close you are.
  • Chapters that meet the goal will get GIVE ME FIVE badge ribbons to wear at SCDC!

2. PAYMENT DEADLINE FOR ICDC ELIGIBILITY

For students to be eligible to attend/compete at ICDC, their membership needs to be paid by March 1.

3. UNSUBMITTED MEMBERS

Your “graduated” students (last year’s seniors) were moved to the Alumni Member area of your membership portal and are “Unsubmitted.”

  • Please take a few minutes to go to your membership portal and either delete them or submit all or some of them ($25 membership fee).

4. 100% DECA

Be sure to let me know if 100% of your business/marketing students are DECA members, if you haven’t already.

  • Chapters with 100% membership will get 100% DECA badge ribbons to wear at SCDC!

B. SCDC

1. REGISTRATION AND HOUSING

Registration

SCDC Registration opens at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 29.

  • Area qualifiers have already been imported to SCDC registration. If any of your Area qualifiers will not be participating at SCDC, please notify your Area Leader ASAP, so the next eligible competitor can be notified.
  • When you register, be sure to add t-shirt size for all your students, chaperones, and yourselves. It’s easy to forget about the area qualifiers who are already in the system.
  • Written qualifiers will be announced Monday, January 28. You will register those students, your students competing in Principles and/or PFL, students attending the Senior Management Academy, students attending/competing in the SBE event, and your State President candidate (if applicable).
  • Remember to register yourselves, your chaperone(s), and your online testing proctor.

Housing

Your hotel is selected and housing arrangements are completed in the registration system on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • If you need to be housed at the same hotel as another chapter, please make sure you have agreed on the hotel before registration opens.
  • If you are within a 20-mile radius and are commuting, please let me know. I will override your housing, so you can complete registration.
  • The 2018-19 state officers will stay as a team. I have placed an override on those chapters, so they can complete registration without placing their state officer in a room.

2. PRINCIPLES AND PFL – TWO ROLE PLAYS

This year, we will run two role plays for the Principles and PFL events. Last year, we ran only one, due to space constraints, so be sure to make your students aware if they are competing in these events.

3. FORMS C AND D

Form C

Form C is the Agreement to Supervise Students from Another Chapter.

  • If you are providing supervision to a chapter that has exceeded their 1 to 10 adult-to-student ratio, both advisors and their Principals and CTE Directors need to sign off on Form C.
  • This form is posted on teachdeca.org | Quick Links | Document Library | SCDC and is linked above in blue.

Form D

Form D is the Permission to Use Private Transportation.

  • If your chapter is within a 20-mile radius of Meydenbauer Center and is not going to be housed onsite at SCDC, any student who is going to drive themselves to and from the conference needs to have Form B on file with Washington DECA. This form is to be completed and signed by the parent/guardian, advisor, and Principal.
  • An updated Form D is attached. The conference date was incorrect on the one previously posted in the SCDC Document Library. This corrected version will be posted there soon.

5. CHAPTERS USING PRIVATE SECURITY

If your chapter is hiring private security for your hotel at SCDC, please let me or Lori Hairston know so we can keep the hotel security, our own security officers, the management team members, and our staff in the loop.

  • Washington DECA has at least one security officer at each of the eight conference hotels. They patrol the grounds and the halls throughout the night after curfew. They will notify advisors of any complaints involving their students.
  • If a student is sent home from the conference due to a Code of Conduct violation, Lori Hairston MUST be notified immediately.

C. SCHOLARSHIPS

1. STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Student scholarship applications have been reviewed, and you will be notified tomorrow of your students who were and were not selected to receive a scholarship.

  • Scholarships will be mailed to the chapter advisor after their SCDC invoices are paid in full.
  • Students who do not attend SCDC forfeit their scholarship.

2. STEVEN RHONE SCHOLARSHIPS

The Steven Anthony Rhone, Jr. Scholarship will be awarded to four chapters at the SCDC Opening Session.

  • If you applied for this chapter scholarship, please plan to attend the Opening Session.
  • Sandra Rhone, Steven’s mother, will be there to present the awards.

3. DECA INC. SCHOLARSHIPS

All DECA Inc. scholarship applicants will be emailed and notified of their status (qualifying or non-qualifying) on Friday, January 25, 2019 with instructions for the second-round review process.
