2. NOT ATTENDING OPENING SESSION--LET US KNOW

Please let us know (that sounds a lot like let it snow!) if you will not be attending the Opening Session Thursday night at SCDC, along with the number in your delegation. We are gauging whether we need to use our overflow space for Opening. Thank you!

3. PRACTICE TESTING ENDS FEBRUARY 10

Practice testing closes February 10 across the board, so encourage your students to take advantage of the last few days. Free if you attended FLC and $1 per testing student to all others. You will be billed after testing closes. Please contact Linda if you have questions.

4. CUT-OFF DATE FOR MEMBERSHIP RECOGNITION IS TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12.

100% DECA? Largest chapter in the state? Largest chapter in your Area? Largest % growth in the state or in your Area? Highest % of DECA members per your school population? Give Us Five Membership Drive achievers?

We are going to recognize you at SCDC! Tuesday, February 12 is the cut-off date to determine these results.

5. TENTATIVE AGENDA

I’ve been asked several times lately for the SCDC Agenda. Click Here to download the Tentative Agenda.

- As we get closer to SCDC, you will get a sneak peek at the Conference Program, which provides all the logistical details. All attendees are provided a Conference Program in their chapter’s SCDC check-in packet.

6. ADDITIONAL TESTING DATES / (S)NO(W) WORRIES

Linda Andersen emailed advisors this week with testing information. She has added two additional days for testing.

Feb. 11-12, 7 am - 5 pm (new window)
Feb. 13-14, 7 am - 5 pm
Feb 19-20, 7 am - 5 pm

If you need a window opened earlier or later, please contact Linda (206.285.1195), but be aware that she may not be available to troubleshoot any issues that may come up until she gets in to the office each day. Her goal is to be in by 6:30 a.m., but she can’t guarantee it.

What about snow? If there are snow days that interfere with testing, Linda wants to assure you that she will accommodate you.

7. 10-PAGE WRITTEN EVENTS DEADLINE

Due to the inclement weather and school closures, the deadline for 10-page papers has been extended. Here are the guidelines for extension:

- If your school was closed Monday, and you were in session Tuesday, papers were due (postmarked/delivered) Wednesday, February 6.

- If your school was also closed Tuesday, papers are due (postmarked/delivered) Thursday, February 7.

- If your school was also closed Wednesday, papers are due (postmarked/delivered) Friday, February 8…and so on.

8. JUDGES / JUDGE REGISTRATION

We are seeking additional judges, if you have Area judges, colleagues, or professional contacts who would be interested.

- Click Here to access the Competition Judge page on wadeca.org. The link to Judge Registration is on that page, along with helpful information and a Judge Tips video.

- We invite all judges to our Judge Happy Hour on Friday at SCDC!

When: Friday, March 1Time: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.Where: Tavern Hall (Bellevue Square)Other: Food/Beverages | Raffle | Networking | More

9. VOLUNTEERS

We are also seeking volunteers to help at SCDC. Examples of the kind of help a volunteer could lend include:

- Assist with conference check-in set-up.

- Help distribute materials during conference check-in.

- Sort score sheets and other materials for post-conference pick-up.

If you have alum, friends, family, or colleagues who would like to be involved, please contact Lori Hairston.

10. SCDC DRESS CODE

Click Here to view the Dress Code PowerPoint showing examples of appropriate (and inappropriate) attire for SCDC.

- At SCDC, skirt/dress length should be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee (WITHOUT a long slit). At ICDC, DECA Inc. requires skirt/dress length to be at or below the knee.

- While DECA Inc. is now requiring the competitors females to wear a necktie, ascot, or scarf with a collared shirt, WA DECA will not penalty point students who do not adhere to this.

11. DECA APPAREL FOR SALE

Shop the Washington DECA/InkInc decateamshop.com for Washington DECA apparel! The decateamshop will be open throughout the remainder of the school year.

- All orders will be shipped out as they are ordered and no longer will be distributed at SCDC due to the proximity of the conference.

- For large quantity orders, David Woodruff’s (InkInc) contact information is on the site.

- The online store is open to anyone (advisors, students, parents, etc.), and we encourage everyone to get their gear and represent WA DECA!

12. ALLOWED COMPETITION VISUALS

Please review the guidelines on page 39 (#1) in the DECA Guide regarding allowed visuals in competition.
